Christopher W. Hodges

U.S. Consul General, Chennai

Christopher W. Hodges assumed the post of Consul General at the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai, India, on July 31, 2023.
He was most recently Senior Advisor in the Office of the Coordinato for Afghan Relocation Efforts (CARE) and prior to that assignment was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Press and Public Diplomacy and Assistance Coordination in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs as well as Deputy Assistant Secretary for IsraeliPalestinian Affairs. He joined the Foreign Service in 2000 and has served as Public Affairs Officer in Jerusalem; Hanoi, Vietnam; and Accra, Ghana; as well as Deputy Director for Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein in the Office of Central European Affairs. His other tours include Suva, Fiji and Frankfurt, Germany.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs with honors from Georgia Tech and Masters of Art degrees in International Affairs and Strategic Studies respectively from George Washington University and the U.S. Naval War College. He was named runner-up for the 2018 Edward R. Murrow Award for Public Diplomacy and honored by the Public Diplomacy Alumni Association for Achievement in Public Diplomacy in 2019. He is originally from Marietta, Georgia and is married with two kids. As the Consul General in Chennai, Chris is responsible for advancing U.S.-India relations in the consular jurisdiction covering Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and the three Union Territories — the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
