Nashid Chowdhury

Investment and Trade Commissioner for the India-Gulf region

Nashid Chowdhury is the Investment and Trade Commissioner for the India-Gulf region at the Western Australian Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation.  Nashid and her team work to attract investment and increase trade into Western Australia from South Asia and the Middle East.
With two decades of economic development, investment and trade experience across state, Commonwealth and local governments, Nashid has extensive expertise in managing offshore networks, supporting business growth, leveraging state and Commonwealth government programs, and attracting investment across international markets. Nashid also has a strong background in strategic stakeholder engagement which has enabled her to develop strong networks throughout South Asia and the Middle East.
Holding a Master of International Business from Monash University, Nashid has worked across a wide range of sectors, including energy; tourism, events and creative industries; international education; mining; primary industries; and health and medical life sciences. She also has experience working with tech startups and businesses focused on cybersecurity, financial services, transport, construction, science and innovation.
Nashid has previously worked for Austrade in the United Arab Emirates and resided there. Being of Bangladeshi and Indian background, she is fluent in Hindi, Bengali and Urdu, and has an excellent understanding of business and culture in South Asia. Nashid is also competent in reading Arabic.

The Government of Western Australia has had long term times with the India-Gulf region including offices in Mumbai and Dubai for over 25 years and 20 years respectively.  Recently the Deputy Premier, the Hon. Roger Cook has announced the opening of a satellite office in Chennai.

The focus for the ITWA India-Gulf region over the next two years will be on enhancing economic prosperity through trade and investment facilitation and increased supply chain integration, increasing connectivity through people-to-people connections and on enhancing physical connectivity (aviation, port linkages), digital connectivity (i.e. connecting the innovation ecosystems) and on positioning WA on the map across India-Gulf.
