Dr Ian Scrimgeour has a PhD in geology from the University of Adelaide and has around 30 years experience in the Territory’s geoscience and resources sector, in government, industry and academia. Dr Scrimgeour had led the Northern Territory Geological Survey since 2006 and is currently responsible for leading the Territory Government’s efforts to grow the exploration and mining sector through the Resourcing the Territory initiative.
Under his leadership, the Northern Territory Geological Survey (NTGS) has managed to secure ongoing government funding for programs to grow the exploration sector, and is highly regarded by the exploration industry. This is demonstrated through consistently high rankings in a global survey conducted by the Fraser Institute of Canada. The data and information provided by NTGS has help attract and support investment in resource exploration in the Territory, which has totalled more than $1 billion over the past decade.
Northern Territory delegation led by their Deputy Chief Minister Ms Nicole Manison met with Mr Arun Roy, Principal Secretary, Tamil Nadu Industries Department and with senior officials from Chennai Petroleum Chemical Limited to scope of possibilities in the area of renewable energy, rare earths and minerals and other areas.
