Thiru Rajesh Lakhoni is a 1992 batch front runner IAS Officer, a native of Raipur, Chattishgarh State.
After his graduation in Electronics Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Raipur, he got a top rank in the GATE and effortlessly landed in IIT Delhi where he completed M.Tech in Radar Engineering. The top rank in GATE Coupled with peer pressure made him write the Civil Services Examination and it was bulls eye in the very first attempt.
He is soft spoken & tough bureaucrat who has held many top positions. If we ask any citizen who has interacted with the Bureaucracy in Tamil Nadu and all of them will vouch for one quality that Lakhoni is known for his easy accessibility. This was the hallmark of his postings as Collector in Theni, Kanyakumari, Perambalur & Ariyalur etc., and particularly his stint as the Commissioner of Corporation of Chennai. He held several portfolios viz. MD, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation, MD, Metrowater, Joint Commissioner (Revenue Administration), Secretary, Agriculture Department, Secretary, Energy Department and Chief Electoral Officer of Tamil Nadu. During his tenure as CEO, he was eyes, ears and mouth of the Election Commission of India. In 2010, he won the Prime Minister Award for his Administrative Excellence.
Thiru Rajesh Lakhoni was holding the post of Principal Secretary/Member-Secretary, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority and Commissioner of Directorate of Town and Country Planning, Principal Secretary/Housing and Urban Development Department and Principal Secretary/Commissioner, Archives & Historical Research, Chennai.
He is currently holding the post of the Additional Chief Secretary, Chairman cum Managing Director/TANGEDCO, TNEB Ltd., and Chairman TANTRANSCO.
