Solomon Darwin

Executive Director, Garwood Centre for Corporate Innovation, Centre for Growth Markets

Professor Solomon Darwin, currently serving as the Executive Director of the Center for Corporate Innovation and the Center for Growth Markets at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley, boasts extensive leadership experience in both corporate management and academia. Renowned as an expert in "open innovation" and "open business models," he provides advisory services to senior executives of multinational companies and government leaders across the globe. His advisory portfolio includes prominent global brands and government entities in Europe, China, Russia, India, South Korea, Turkey, Thailand, Canada, Latin America, and Mexico.

As an internationally recognized speaker and teacher, Professor Darwin has received numerous awards for his innovative leadership and dedication to teaching. He inspires students from business and engineering disciplines through courses in open innovation, business models, smart cities, scalable smart villages, and business models for emerging economies. Acknowledged as the Father of the Smart Village Movement, an initiative of the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley, he leads projects such as "Creating Scalable Smart Villages" and "The Rebuilding India Initiative," commissioned by the government of India.

Prior to joining Berkeley-Haas in 2005, Professor Darwin held the position of Associate Professor at the University of Southern California for nine years. His 14 years of progressive corporate leadership include roles as a Senior Executive Officer at Bank of America, First Interstate Bank, Glendale Federal Bank, and Motorola.
