Raghuram G Rajan

Former RBI Governor, Member of Economic Advisory Council to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

Dr Raghuram G Rajan is the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at Chicago Booth who is also the member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Renowned for his tenure as the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from September 2013 to September 2016, Dr. Rajan's expertise spans banking, corporate finance, and economic development.


His scholarly pursuits have produced impactful contributions, evident in his authorship of acclaimed books such as "The Third Pillar: How the State and Markets Hold the Community Behind," a finalist for the prestigious Financial Times Business Book of the Year award in 2019. His prior work, "Fault Lines: How Hidden Fractures Still Threaten the World Economy," earned him the Financial Times Business Book of the Year prize in 2010.

Dr. Rajan's accolades reflect his distinguished career. He received the Fischer Black Prize from the American Finance Association in 2003 and was honoured with the Infosys Prize for Economic Sciences in 2012, the Deutsche Bank Prize for Financial Economics in 2013, and the Euromoney Central Banker Governor of the Year award in 2014. His leadership at the helm of the Reserve Bank of India earned him recognition as the Central Bank Governor of the Year by Banker Magazine in 2016.

He completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He pursued his Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration, at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and his Doctoral Program in Management, at the MIT Sloan School of Management.
