Dr. S Christopher former Secretary Department of Defence Research & Development and Chairman DRDO, is currently working as Professor at IIT Madras and he is the Chairman of AIDAT. Prior to becoming Secretary MoD, GoI, Dr Christopher, distinguished scientist was the Director of the Bangalore based DRDO laboratory called Centre for Airborne Systems and programme director for the prestigious AEW&C programme. He was the chief architect of the AEW&C system responsible for its design and development Indigenously which placed India in the league of four nations in the world. During his tenure DRDO completed several indigenous systems got inducted to name a few, AEW&C or ‘Netra’, LCA or Thejas, Akash missile system, Nuclear submarine, torpedo Varunastra etc. He is the recipient of several awards including prestigious ‘Scientist of the year award in 1998’.
