The State launched the Tamil Nadu Research and Development Policy in 2022, which introduced key benefits to the sector and fueled the rise of R&D and Global Capability Centres (GCCs) of many major global information technology companies within the State. The Government of Tamil Nadu has also invested heavily in common R&D infrastructure like testing and prototyping facilities that generate a lot of public goods and technological spinoffs in terms of shared innovation. Tamil Nadu’s R&D ecosystem, coupled with the abundant skilled talent in the State, attracts top global companies in the high-end technology and manufacturing innovation space.
