Tamil Nadu is emerging as a significant exporter of basic chemicals, with its exports growing at a CAGR of 13.5% between 2013-14 and 2017-18.
In 2017-18, the top three commodities exported from Tamil Nadu were petroleum products (constituting 38% of total chemical exports), residual chemical and allied products (15%), and other miscellaneous chemicals (15%).
The state leads among South Indian states in terms of both plastics production and consumption.
Prominent chemical and petrochemical manufacturers, including BPCL, IOCL, CPCL, and SPIC, have established their bases in Tamil Nadu.
